I was interested in this topic and so I read alot about it.
I found these articles to be very enlightening.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colony_Collapse_Disorder

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imidacloprid_effects_on_bee_population

However, Imidacloprid has not been proven to be causing CCD yet.
There are so many factors to consider with this problem. Mark

True, tho they don't have a sure cause, it is the most likely. think about it, cell phones? yes can make the bee's leave, BUT as a swarm, taking everything they can carry and other bee's will rob the hive, and surely it would effect all the bee hives in the area, GM crops? Have been shown to effect the bees and their ability to deal with mites, BUT they heave a dead hive.. CCD leaves nothing but the Queen and her staff with capped broad.. CCD has to be a toxin, as the other hives don't raid it for honey.. Having spent many months looking into this, I can safely eliminate all but Imidacloprid. It explains everything. Just need someone to have the honey and hive left behind tested to be sure.. Thankfully I have yet to lose any to this. Rich
PS. Added 26-MAR-08, Several researchers have now come forward and said that if they went done the path to show Imidacloprid even might be the cause, have been told there funding would be pulled.. Interesting..
I am a woman beekeeper from the Antipodes (New Zealand) with 2 hives on a large city section. I will be extracting honey this week and then its getting ready for autumn down here ! Your honey sounds delicious, I hope to get into making candles as soon as I have enough wax, pop into my blog if you get a minute, I am still new at this blogging thing, but I find it great as an on-line diary and fun !
Cheers
